A THIRD smelter!?

Over the weekend Prime Minister Patrick Manning announced plans for a possible third smelter to be constructed in Trinidad. This comes depite the controversy surrounding the smelters scheduled to be constructed at Chatham and La Brea. The announcement was met with uproar from environmental and several politial bodies, which accuse Manning of disregarding the advice of environmentalists and the general public.

People, I will continue this post later. You know why? Because right now I so fucking vex and upset that I can't think straight and so help me God if Manning was here I think i might do him serious bodily harm. And for those of you who think that three smelters on our tiny island is a great idea, ruminate on this article for a while.

This is what we've come to. Our leadership fluctuates between ignorant dictators and self satisfied criminals. No wonder Rudder's "Haiti I'm sorry" is ringing in my ears...

But Hottie Hottie, like you real vex. I have never seen you react so.
Girl, I know how you are feeling. I was damn vex myself. When is this Pastor going to stop trying to dictate my and my fellow citiszens' lives and assume that he knows what is best for us?
he needs to get new advisors, cause somebody is feeding him a load of shit.

Anon 9.40, you have no idea how angry and helpless I feel right now. And it's even worse since I'm in a foreign country. Patrick Manning seems obsessed with leaving behind some sort of legacy. The airport will always be associated with Panday, so like he want the smelters to be associated with him. Sweet God! Between the three smelters and the railway system - oh LORD, and his private jet - our environment will be devastated. It's already so fragile. This is his idea of first world status - infrastructure and more infrastructure. True first world status is respecting your people, one and respecting your country. He's turning into the region's very own Joseph Mobutu. Don't be surprised if he announces he wants to change the country's name.

You're right Saucy, he's operating from pure arrogance. I think he imagines he has some special blessing from God and has been sent to sway and rule the ignorant masses. And what does it say about our country that he is our longest serving politician?!

Hottie girl I sad today,it took me a long time to summon up some feeling to write about Carnival on my blog :(

Did you see today' expres headline? A 13 year old boy was raped and tortured to death yesterday. This is the 7th child to die in Trinidad for the year, and the 3rd boy to be raped and killed. But the gruesome part is how he was killed; the man buggered him, chopped him on the back and chest, bashed in his head on a wall, knocked out most his teeth (which were found in a cup) and broke his spine.

It is truly a sad day in Trinidad and Tobago.

Girl, I saw it. I saw it. I couldn't even finish read the story. I'm not even bothering to post my column today because it seems frivolous compared to this. I - girl - I've never felt more ashamed to be a Trinidadian. First the smelter, now this. I don't know girl, I doh know. Everytime something like this happens I try to write a column but I don't think I have it in me this time. And they keep getting more gruesome. But lewwe build more building, bring in more foreign investors, drive fancy car. That will make us a developed nation. Meanwhile, I haven't heard one case even remotely as horrendous as this in all the time I've been up here. Trinidad, ah proud ah we today, yuh hear. Ah real proud.

It's not only the shame girl; is the cruelty, the rising spate of crimes, the fact that after Sean Luke something like this happened again and that for alot of people here the headlines do nothing, they are so used to someone being murdered every day.

We are reaching a paranoid state, just now you will can't let your children out the house to play with the neighbour!
